Curbside Yard Waste Pickup Continues

Mark your calendars: From May through October, the City of Dowagiac’s Public Works Department picks up residential yard waste curbside in Wards 1, 2, and 3.

Help keep your yard clean — make sure you know when your Ward’s yard waste is scheduled to be picked up each month.

Ward 1: First Monday of the month.

Ward 2: Second Monday of the month.

Ward 3: Third Monday of the month.

Waste should be set out prior to 7am Monday morning, though pickup for the entire ward may not be complete until Thursday. Major storm events may impact the pickup schedule.

Requirements for curbside waste pickup:

  • Limbs must be less than 8" in diameter and less than 5’ in length, neatly stacked. Small limbs, branches and twigs must be placed in a container (bags, boxes, or cans). No stumps or root-balls will be picked up. The city reserves the right to exclude from pickup brush piles that are extraordinary in size or volume. Residents may request pickup of piles of extraordinary size, but will be charged a fee for such service based on the actual labor and equipment costs.
  • All grass clippings and leaves must be contained (bags, boxes, or cans) and separated from limbs and twigs. Loose piles will not be picked up.
  • Containers will be emptied by the City's crew onto the truck and left curbside to be re-used or properly disposed of by the resident.
  • Materials for pick-up must be placed behind the curb – not in the street.
  • No building materials, machined lumber, root-balls, stones, trash, garbage, litter, or fecal material will be accepted or removed. Violations will be cited in accordance with the city's blight ordinance.
