Department of Public Services (DPS) Maintenance
The City of Dowagiac is accepting applications for a full-time position as a Maintenance Worker with the Department of Public Services. Applicants must be able to safely and efficiently perform routine, moderately difficult, and emergency tasks involving manual labor and machinery/equipment operation in conjunction with activities surrounding the construction, maintenance, and repair of the water, sewer, and storm systems, streets, bridges, sidewalks, alleys, right-of-way systems, and municipal buildings, facilities and grounds.

Must possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), have knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and practices involving heavy equipment. Valid Driver’s License, with ability to earn Commercial Driver’s License (B) within 6 months is required. Wages dependent up CDL status, starting at $17.66 per hour. Applicant’s possessing heavy equipment experience and/or current CDL’s will be given priority.

Water Sewer Operations Superintendent-Applications accepted until filled.

The City of Dowagiac is accepting applications for the non-union position of Water Sewer Operations Superintendent.  The Superintendent supervises, directs, and coordinates all work activities associated with water and sewer utilities, provides written and oral reports and recommendations, and supports daily crew activities.   The Superintendent will coordinate labor and equipment for daily tasks and projects.  The Superintendent will also work with the Public Services Director to manage various projects and activities including monitoring labor, equipment and material budgets.  Major duties include organizing, managing, scheduling, and implementing maintenance, repair, construction, operations activities, and maintaining regulatory compliance related to city water distribution infrastructure, sanitary sewer collection infrastructure, storm sewer and drainage infrastructure, and other like duties.

The ideal applicant will be professional, courteous and exhibit excellent communication with working crews, other staff and the public.  A college/university degree in engineering, construction management, natural sciences, parks & recreation, business, public administration or other related technical field is preferred.   All applicants considered will have at least 5 years of proven experience in administering water distribution, sewer collection, storm sewer systems or other similar public works and utilities operations.

$24.35-$31.66 per hour, starting wage.  This is an hourly non-exempt position.

Crossing Guard-Open until filled

Looking for a great way to serve your community?  Are you invested in the safety of Dowagiac’s kids?
The Dowagiac Police Department is hiring school crossing guards to assist kids in getting to school across our busier streets.   Crossing Guards must be available for 1 hour in the morning before school and 1 hour in the afternoon after school, Monday through Friday during the school year. 

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older and able to pass a background check.  Starting wage is $12.00 per hour.
