Historic
Walking Tour
|
 |
| To
begin your tour of Dowagiac's past, you may start where so many
of Dowagiac's visitors started, the Historic
Train Depot at the corner of Depot Drive and Park
Place. Built in 1903 by the Michigan Central Railroad, the recently
restored facility now serves as a transportation hub for buses
and trains as well as housing the offices of the Greater Dowagiac
Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Authority, and Whistlestop
Gifts. |

 |
Dowagiac's
Fire Department and the City Hall
Building set across Depot Drive to the west. The
City Hall building was completed in 1997. The former City Hall
sat just to the south where the "Resting Dancer" sculpture
makes it home today. |
| Looking
to the east from the Depot you can see Judd
Lumber Company. Michigan's oldest continuously -operated
lumber business, Judd Lumber Company began in Dowagiac in 1859
as a water-powered plaining mill. Now, Judd Lumber is headed
by fourth - generation president, Richard M. Judd, Jr., who
has been with the company since 1964. |
