Why
do I need a building permit?
Building permits insure that all alterations,
additions, construction, demolition or renovation work to any structure
conforms to a minimal safety standard according to applicable codes.
When
do I need a building permit?
Building permits are required for any work
which will enlarge or decrease in size any structure, any renovation
which affects structural members, exits, or any work which will
change the use of a structure.
Permits are not normally required for work involving painting, window
or door replacement, provided that the window opening is not enlarged
or decreased in size. If you have specific questions on building
permit requirements, please contact the Building Official's office
at
(269) 782-8427.

Do
I need a permit to install a shed?
Yes, all sheds, whether permanent or temporary, require a permit. If the shed size is less than 200 square feet, it requires a zoning permit. Where
may a resident park or store a motor vehicle?
A currently licensed and fully operational motor vehicle may be parked in any driveway, rear yard or any side yard, which is not abutting a street. The City prohibits all front yard parking (except driveways) and any side yard parking abutting a street. If a motor vehicle is to be stored upon the property in public view, it must be maintained as fully licensed and operational at all times.
