Dowagiac is only a thirty-minute drive to the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. In the winter the area also offers downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

The City of Dowagiac is a small town close to several large metropolitan areas including South Bend Indiana (25 miles) and Chicago Illinois (90 miles). Known for its Arts & Cultural Community

The City is known for its arts and cultural community. The City is home of an active community theater as well as theater productions at Southwestern Michigan College. The Dogwood Fine Arts Festival attracts visitors from around the country. This festival brings in visiting artists from all disciplines including dance, music, art and literature. The festival is responsible for the public art pieces located around the City.

The Downtown hosts a number of events during the year. The Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series, Christmas parade, ice sculpture competition, Dowagiac Fun Fest, and the Rod and Roll Classic Car Show are just a few of the many offerings.
