Dowagiac,
named by its first inhabitants for its abundance, is today a community
still meeting the needs of its residents. Nestled in the rolling hills
of southwestern Michigan, surrounded by a multitude of inland lakes
and bountiful farmland, the area carries the feel of a rural community,
while enjoying close proximity to major metropolitan areas.
The small town appeal of our downtown shopping
district was revamped with the shopper in mind. Ample parking and
wide sidewalks promote foot traffic for shopping or just strolling
and visiting. Early mornings find shopkeepers outside their businesses
sweeping the sidewalks, tending planters, and visiting friends and
neighbors.
